St John’s Newtown campus offers a nurturing and holistic approach to education for young learners.
Students may progress to the primary school from our kindergarten or join the St John’s community at the transition point of Prep.

The opportunity of a seamless pathway from Kindergarten through to Year 12 is assured for all Geelong Lutheran College students, with guaranteed entry into Year 7 at our Armstrong Creek campus for students graduating from St John’s.
French
Geelong Lutheran College students at St John’s Newtown have the opportunity to be part of an innovative French program beginning in Kindergarten. The French experience involves the combination of explicit language teaching along with immersive language experiences within the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Students are also able to further develop their language skills and fluency digitally through the ELLA Program (Early Learning Languages Australia) and the Languagenut App.
Sport
Providing an opportunity for students to participate in sporting activities is a priority for Geelong Lutheran College, St John’s Newtown. In addition to the PE program offered to all students, there is a diverse range of in-school as well as extra-curricular sporting events that children have the opportunity to participate in. These include:
- School events such as athletics, cross country and swimming, catering for students capable of progressing all the way through to State level competition.
- Interschool sporting competitions including football, netball, softball, basketball, cricket, swimming and soccer.
Choir/Music
We offer a developmental classroom music program for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Through listening, singing, movement, playing instruments, composition and aural activities, students have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge appropriate for their level of learning.
The classroom music program includes a holistic integration of Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze methods along with other approaches to inspire, engage and teach students. Year 3-6 students are given the opportunity to join the choir which rehearses each week. Year 5-6 choir members are given the chance to be involved in the Senior Vocal Ensemble.
