Co-Curricular & Extra-Curricular Activities

Both GLC St John’s Newtown and GLC Armstrong Creek offer students to be involved in learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom.

Camps, excursions and incursions occur throughout the year for all students enabling them to further their learning and social/emotional skills development in a non-school setting. Excursions and camps may have a cultural, environmental or outdoor emphasis and are an important aspect of the educational programs offered at our school.

Excursions related to curriculum areas include visits to heritage sites, landmarks, indigenous education at Narana, sustainability and the Arts. Secondary students can also apply to join overseas experiences such a Cambodia Service Trip and German Sister School Cultural Exchange.

Students participate in a number of inter-house sporting and non-sporting competitions throughout the year, including Cross Country, Athletics, and Debating, as well as the annual Swimming Carnival for Secondary students. There are also opportunities for Year 5 and 6 students, and all Secondary students to participate in interschool sporting and debating competitions.

Lunch Clubs are available for both Primary and Secondary students to participate in every lunchtime, which programs such as Lawn or Jumbo Games, Gardening, Language Clubs, Library, Drawing, Chess, STEM, Homework Club, Art and Coding offered.

The campuses have a diverse range of music ensemble groups, including choirs and string groups at the Primary level, as well as a Secondary Choir, Rock Band, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band and Concert Band for Secondary students at GLC Armstrong Creek. Whether they're harmonising in a choir, rocking out in a band, or fine-tuning their skills in an orchestra, these ensembles provide a supportive environment for students to explore their musical talents and create unforgettable performances.

Private Music Tuition is available for students at both GLC campuses at an additional cost to families. This comprehensive program offers instruction in a variety of instruments, including piano, voice and strings at both campuses, and guitar, drums, brass and woodwind at GLC Armstrong Creek. Students have the opportunity to hone their skills and develop a lifelong love for music during convenient lessons held within the school day.

Whether the student is a beginner looking to start their musical journey or an advanced musician seeking to refine their craft, these tailored lessons cater to all skill levels and aspirations.

Primary students take part in a bi-annual School Concert, with Secondary students at GLC Armstrong Creek passionate about performing arts able to audition for the College Musical which is held every two years on the alternating year to the Primary Concert. Additional smaller performing opportunities include the bi-annual Christmas Performance at GLC St John’s Newtown and Easter and Christmas Plays at GLC Armstrong Creek.
